Developing Global Partnerships in Health since 1978
The first part of the delegation took place in Beijing where the delegation started out with a visit at China Assistive and Technology Center for People with Disability, where Vice Director Mr. Hou Ping received the delegation for a meeting and a tour of the center. It is estimated that only 12% of the disabled in China have access to the assistive devices they need, in rural areas the figure is as low as 7%. Thereafter the delegation visited Intech Rehab and Nursing Center, a hospital and rehabilitation center for stroke patients and old people in general. The facilities are managed by Ms. Guan Xiaoli who is a trained nurse from Luleå in Sweden. The last meeting for the day was at China Disabled Persons Fedaration, an influential organization that has visited Sweden several times. The delegation was received by Mrs. Wang Niekun, vice president. In the evening ambassador Lars Fredén hosted a reception at his residence.
The second day in Beijing was devoted to a seminar hosted by SCA together with the Chinese Ministry of Health. The seminar took place in the prestigious Beijing Hotel. There was also an opportunity for the delegates to visit State Food and Drug Administration, SFDA, the Chinese regulatory authority, where registration issues were discussed. .. The meeting at SFDA was followed by a meeting at the Ministry of Civil Affairs, where the companies could introduce themselves to the Minister responsible for ageing and elderly care, Mr. Li Liguo. The visit to Beijing ended with a banquet hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Health.
The following day it was time for our own seminar ”Future Elderly Care and Solutions for People with Disability” partners and co-organizers were the Bureau of Civil Affairs, the Municipal Health Bureau and Shanghai Disabled Persons Federation. In the policy introduction Minister Larsson and the Chief Analyst from the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs gave their speeches on ”Swedish policies on healthy and active aging” and Perspectives of an aging population – Future Challenges and Opportunities from a Swedish and Chinese perspective”. From the Chinese side Ms. Gao Ju Lan, Deputy Director General of the Bureau for Civil Affairs announced how Shanghai deals with the challenges connected to its aging population. Three panel discussions followed. The first one named Prevent, Postpone and Protect, consisted of representatives from SCA and Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.
In the second panel the participants focused on High Quality Geriatric Care for dignified aging. The importance of training for those working in the field of dementia was highlighted. The Chinese presented impressive projects in dementia care and highlighted the challenge of how to prevent loneliness for the elderly. Silviahemmet and Bactiguard participated in this panel together with Lars Gatenbeck from Swecare and Ding Han Shen, deputy director vid Shanghai Medical Information Institute.
The third and last panel Assistive devices and supportive environments had a discussion on products and services to assist elderly people and the importance of adaptation of housing and the community to create supportive environments for mobility, safety, activity and health. Introductory speaker in this panel was Susanne Iwarsson from Lund University and the companies participating were Phoniro and Olivia.
In the afternoon, the delegation met with representatives of the Zhongrong group. Zhongrong Group is interested in Swedish solutions for the elderly center they plan to build on the island of Hainan in southern China. A Letter of Intent was signed between them and Swecare. In the evening, the delegation was invited to the General Consul, Bengt Johansson, together with a number of Chinese high-level people.
The last day of delegation was dedicated to study visits and inaugurations of joint projects. Minister Maria Larsson inaugurated the Permobil factory situated in Kunshan outside of Shanghai. In the afternoon the minister attended the opening of the SCA home assistance center in Shanghai.
